What Do Hemorrhoids Look Like

How can you relieve the pain?

Some people can't even talk about hemorrhoids to their own health care provider. It is no doubt, an embarrassing subject matter to them and they would rather agonize in silence or find an over-the-counter treatment. What they don't know is this could be worse than just a case of hemorrhoids. Indeed, embarrassed or not, they truthfully should find medical attention.

Appearance - What do hemorrhoids look like?

If you find yourself asking the question: “what do hemorrhoids look like" then you aren't alone. Internal and external hemorrhoids have different appearances. If external, they may appear almost like many skin-colored grapes. But, it may not be hemorrhoids at all. Anal warts can appear like hemorrhoids so once again that is good reason to seek medical advice.

Internal hemorrhoids start out within the anus and when they swell, they reach beyond the rectum. These types might also bleed before they get swollen enough to protrude. When this happens they can actually develop a blood clot inside which is exceptionally painful.

Signs and Symptoms

In the beginning, you might realize if you are being afflicted with hemorrhoids is a pressure when you go to the bathroom. The swelling of veins inside the anus is the probable culprit. Although much of the time this is because of a pregnancy, due to pressure caused by the baby, it might be because of excess weight and because you may be straining when going to the bathroom.

If blood is dispelled when you go to the bathroom, this could be a symptom of hemorrhoids, as long as it is not dark colored blood, which might indicate another problem all together. This blood might appear bright red.

If pain is felt when you stand, sit, or move, this could mean hemorrhoids as well. The movement of getting up and down might cause you really bad pain. You might feel some discomfort when you bathe or shower, which is an external hemorrhoid.

If you feel burning or itching, this might also be caused by hemorrhoids. However, you should always schedule an appointment with your doctor so that he or she can rule out any other problems before treating the hemorrhoids.

Treatment

There are several good medicines available without a prescription for the treatment of hemorrhoids. If you are absolutely sure this is the problem, you can purchase either a cream or an ointment that not only aids in shrinking the hemorrhoids but also controls the pain, itching, and burning.

Over-the-counter remedies should only be used in conjunction with your doctor after he or she has ruled out any other problems. If hemorrhoids have plagued you before, you are probably pretty sure that this is what you have when the symptoms come back.

Sometimes hemorrhoids are so troublesome that they must be surgically removed. Banding is considered the go-to option, which is literally what it sounds like. Usually a doctor places a rubber band around the hemorrhoid which strangles it, but the downside is that there will be scarring.

Sclerotherapy is a technique that utilizes a chemical to shrink the hemorrhoid. Another is infrared coagulation, which is a method where a small tool is used to take out internal hemorrhoids. Lastly, hemorrhoidectomy is a surgical procedure that takes out the veins that cause hemorrhoids directly.

This is something that you should not be embarrassed about as over 50% of the population is afflicted with this pesky problem. Find help and start to feel better. You will be very glad you did.
