Batteries are required only if you want backup power in case of a utility outage. Solar energy for home use is basically meant to be 'on-grid' - i.e., connected with your utility supplier to reduce dependence on them, but not completely eliminate them. This means, you have 'both' your solar electric system and your utility-supplied power available at all times, working in tandem. Any excess energy that your system generates is sent back to the utility company, which results in you getting lower bills. The savings potential through this method can be both huge and lifelong. |
