Do I need a permit to build a shed in my backyard?
I live in New Orleans, and to be honest the girl at City Hall wasn't a big help. I asked" Do I need a permit to put a shed in my backyard?" She responded yes, never asked what size, how big and she just seemed not interested. So I asked how do I apply for a permit, she said " You come into the office." Wow, such great customer service. So I wonder for a Home Depot Shed 8x6, do I need a permit.

Question about building a shed?
I am planning on building a free standing lean to style shed behind my garage, About 6" away from the garage. The shed will be on the S side of garage.I am planning on building on grade using a 4x4 perimeter w 2x4's on 2' spacing under the floor which will be 3 4" plywood.2x4 for the rest of the wall roof structure. Will be using T1 11 for the siding and ply for the roof shingled too.The question...while some of the literature states that I should sink posts into the ground below frost level I'm in Michigan I want to lnow if there is any danger to this structure if I just build on grade as planned??I estimate that the finished shed will weigh around 1500 . Plan on keeping my lawn tractor in there and some tools. As stated, the shed will be on the S side of the garage and quite protected. It will be 6' or 8' by 12'.Roy, I priced the materials and it is < $300, home D pricing. The kits start alot higher than that are are substandard materials.Extra Info, I also have built a freestanding on grade deck on the E side of my home. It is approx. 2" from the house. Built on all 4x4 framing. Spacing about 30" .Used 2x6 treated decking. It has remained stable, absolutely no movement for over 12 years. It is 12'x16'

Need help building a shed!!!!?
Ok, I know how to build the shed floor using dek blocks with plywood for the floor. However, the next steps I have no clue It will most likely by a 7' by 7' by 7' shed. What type of wood do I make the walls with? plywood? Also, do I attached the side walls directly to the side of the floor joists or to the top of the floor base? How far apart do I make the studs? when making the roof, how do I make it extend over the side walls? do they sell roof shingles with explanations on how to install? any help would be appreciated. Also, if anyone knows of any free sites that offer free deck plans, that would help also.
